You hear people say this word alot.. Obsession. But what is obsession really? The dictionary defines it as:
| obsession | (n.) | an irrational motive for performing trivial or repetitive actions against your will |
| obsession | (n.) | an unhealthy and compulsive preoccupation with something or someone |
At what point does something move from an activity you enjoy to an activity you are obsessed with?
A good example of what I mean is how so many of us are glued to our instant messengers. We enjoy talking to friends and family, co-workers, and the occasional stranger. Is this obsession? Or is it just something we enjoy?
I find that I am worried about myself sometimes. I will be making dinner and if I hear the “ding” of a message I return to my computer to see who it is. Most of the anti-computer society would point and say “HA!.. Obsession!” But what about those people who are so proud not to be plugged in?
“I go to the gym every day to work out.” Are they obsessed with body image?
“I dont sit on my computer as much as you.” Ahh… those TV remote buttons are sure worn out.
So what is truely defined as obsessed? Im not sure it is very clear.
